NACDL - Defending Drug Overdose

Time: November 2, 2018
Location: Milwaukee, WI

The NACDL & The Wisconsin State Defender Office will its 2018 Defending Drug Overdose Homicides Seminar on Friday, November 2, 2018, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As the nation’s opioid crisis continues to mount, increasing numbers of people are being prosecuted for homicide when they are accused of supplying to or sharing drugs with the person who overdoses. Join us for the first ever day long CLE program in the U.S., co-sponsored with the Wisconsin State Public Defender office, devoted solely to how to defend these cases. Practitioners who have handled and tried these cases will share their knowledge on how to aggressively litigate motions and win trials with the best defenses in these cases. Experts in the fields of forensic pathology and medical toxicology will discuss diagnosing these deaths and properly analyzing the medical evidence. We’ll also cover demystifying the prosecution’s use of phone tracking evidence and arguing mitigation at sentencing.
