SADO is the oldest and only state-wide public defender office in Michigan. Our team of attorneys, mitigation and reentry specialists, investigators, paralegals, IT, programmers, administrators, and core staff, work together to fulfill our mission of fighting injustice in the criminal and youth legal system through access, advocacy, compassion, and education. 

Due to the excellent work SADO staff has been doing for decades, Governor Whitmer signed into law a budget that provides for unprecedented growth at SADO and MAACS. SADO’s growth and expansion allows us to increase overall appellate capacity while implementing relief on individual workloads. The budget funds 28 additional positions, including attorneys, investigators, mitigation specialists, and other core staff!
