SADO - Own Who You Are

Time: January 14, 2022 - 2-3pm
Location: Zoom

As women, we may have a tendency to want to become something we are not in professional settings. For example, if we’re labeled as too aggressive, we subsequently try to fade to the background. If we’re labeled as quiet, we may try to be louder, which feels unnatural. This dynamic can be especially challenging for public defenders, who at times may be the only women in the courtroom. Whether we like it or not, sometimes our demeanor may impact how a judge or prosecutor perceive our professionalism, and it may impact the result for our clients.

What do we do with all of this to own our unique selves, stop minimizing our contributions, and build each other up? Join us as Michigan public defenders and team members talk about what it means to own who we are.
