SADO Attorney to Argue Again in the United States Supreme Court
Valerie Newman Appointed to Represent Respondent before Nation's High Court
Oral argument is scheduled for October 8, 2013 in the United States Supreme Court in the case of Burt v Titlow, where Warden Burt seeks relief after the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit granted habeas relief to Vonlee Nicloe Titlow. On April 29, 2013, SADO's Award Winning Attorney Valerie Newman was formally appointed to represent Ms. Titlow. Among the questions presented in this habeas case is whether Ms. Titlow received the effective assistance of counsel during the plea bargaining stage, as well as the application and interpretation of the United States Supreme Court's decision in Lafler v Cooper, a case Ms. Newman successfully argued before the United States Supreme Court last term. The Respondent's Brief filed by Ms. Newman, has been submitted to the Court, and additional coverage can be found at SCOTUSblog.
